STRIEBIG, recognizing the importance of the construction panel industry, now offers an ACM grooving attachment to fit all Striebig saws. This grooving attachment, developed by Striebig, allows fast, accurate and reliable 2-axis V-grooving and U-grooving in all standard ACM gauges. When combined with Striebig's well-known panel-handling capabilities, the result is high efficiency and excellent operator acceptance.
The grooving attachment consists of a special cutter shroud with an integral guard, a set of non-marring tracer wheels for the 3 standard material thicknesses, bearing assembly, and mounting hardware. A special V-grooving cutter with reversible, replaceable carbide inserts is sold separately. Proper operation will also require a backer panel, the thickness of which is determined by the model used.
Operation is simple. The ACM sheet is placed onto the machine in front of the backer panel. Direction and location of the desired groove are set in seconds, then the cutter is advanced in and pushed in the desired direction using the convenient operating handle. A lengthwise groove will require approximately 30 seconds, including the time to set up for the new groove. Tracer wheels, which are mounted coaxially with the cutter but rotating in separate bearings, ride on the surface of the panel. Since the tracer wheels are smaller in diameter than the cutter, the result is that the cutter is allowed to penetrate to an exact thickness. Changeovers for different thicknesses, and changeover to the U-groove or 135-degree cutter, are simple and fast. Since the cutters are furnished with carbide, replaceable, reversible inserts, cutter diameter does not change over time, and downtime is limited to the few minutes required to reverse or replace the inserts. Of course, a saw blade may also be readily substituted for the cutter to allow sizing of the panels.
